Irene has traveled to many countries in the world, inspired by their beautiful landscapes, cultures, and histories. “When I was a child, I always dreamed of traveling the world. I was curious to know how other people lived”. This strong social connection awoke in her the desire to explore, which in turn has brought about fascinating experiences.

Irene ha viajado a muchos países del mundo, inspirada por sus coloridos paisajes, y sus diversas culturas e historias. “De niña siempre soné con viajar y conocer el mundo. Siempre tuve la curiosidad de ver como vivian otras personas”. Esta conexión social despertó en ella el amor por explorar y vivir experiencias fascinantes.

My first immigrant experience was at the age of 14. I lived in Merida, Yucatan Mexico for a year with a Mayan elder who taught me another way of life. I later returned to make California my permanent home. I am a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) in Ethnic Studies and Public Health, My career has allowed me to serve others in the health, education and community service fields. As a non-profit management leader, I have been fortunate to have initiated many projects that have impacted the life of others. Whether it be constructing a community center, advocating for immigrants, working with young students or immigrant women, these experiences have enriched my life and shaped the woman I am today. I feel honored to have developed programs that improved the lives of others. I am currently dedicating more time to my travels and writing many of the memoirs I have collected over the years. Now that I live in the peaceful and serene desert, surrounded by majestic mountains, I can elaborate on my reflections and connect with you through my writings.
Mi primera experiencia migratoria fue cuando tenía catorce años. Viví temporalmente en Mérida, Yucatán, México. Allí conocí la extrema pobreza, pero tambien sentí el amor incondicional de una anciana Maya. Ella fue el primer ángel en mi vida, impulsándome a mirar siempre hacia adelante. Después regrese a California donde he vivido la mayor parte de mi vida. Me gradué de la Universidad del Sur de California (USC) en Estudios Étnicos y Salud Publica. A través de mi carrera he apoyado a miles de personas inmigrantes en su adaptación a este país. Como líder de organizaciones no-lucrativas, fui afortunada en haber iniciado proyectos innovadores que tuvieron impacto en la vida de muchas personas. Construí centros comunitarios, y abogué por los inmigrantes, estudiantes y mujeres. Estas experiencias han formado la persona que soy hoy. Me siento feliz de haber desarrollado programas que impactaron la vida de esas personas. Ahora que vivo en la paz y la serenidad del desierto alto, al lado de majestuosas montañas, finalmente tengo el tiempo de elaborar mis escritos que llegan a ti.
